2010 SCHOLARSHIP WINNER:
The scholarship winner is James Antquinette Clemmons from Columbus, GA.
James graduated from Brookstone School, where he was a member of Cum Laude and National Honor Society. He participated in various service initiatives such as Habitat for Humanity, Trees for Columbus and a school project called Capstone which helps guide young children.
James's mother has worked for the Columbus Fire Department for 20 years. This is what James had to say about his mom:
My mother, an everlasting supporter and motivator, is a firefighter for the Columbus Fire Department. She has served nearly 20 years and seems to hone this passion day in and day out. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge her great influence upon my success and maturation into the young man I am today.
As of this update, James is already attending Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He was recently selected to participate in UCAAP (University Community Academic Advising Program) at Brown. Essentially, it guides incoming freshmen to find greater significance in occupational roles by engaging more in our local areas through contribution whether it be health-related, dealing with human rights, environmental conservation, etc.
James said," I must say that being awarded this scholarship was an honor, and I express this sentinment with the utmost gratitude."
Wow! As a member of GELSSA, I am very proud to be associated with our small investment in James's future. And it looks like a very bright future!
CONGRATULATIONS JAMES!
